German photovoltaic and solar thermal systems continue to grow in 2024

German photovoltaic and solar thermal systems will usher in explosive growth in 2023, with more than one million systems installed and photovoltaic power generation reaching 14 GW, an 85% increase from 2022. BSW-Solar said demand growth stems from rising electricity prices and attractive financing frameworks and is expected to continue until 2024. A Yougov survey shows that more than 1.5 million private real estate owners plan to install solar systems on their roofs, of which 68% have construction plans and 16% plan to implement them in 2024. BSW-Solar is calling for accelerated upgrades of electricity and heating networks to meet growing solar capacity. About half of the expansion in 2023 will occur in home PV systems, with 7 GW coming from private PV rooftop systems, an increase of 135%. Investment in commercial photovoltaic rooftop systems also accelerated, accounting for 18% of total power generation, an increase of 75%. The Market Master Data Register shows that around 270,000 new plug-in solar installations were installed last year, a fourfold increase.
